  • 1 New York strip steak, 1 to 1.5 inches thick
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1 garlic clove, minced (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1 – Preheat your broiler on high for about 10 minutes.
  • Step 2 – While the broiler is heating, bring the New York strip steak to room temperature. Pat it dry with paper towels.
  • Step 3 – Rub the steak with olive oil, then season generously with coarse salt, cracked black pepper, and minced garlic if using.
  • Step 4 – Place the steak on a preheated cast-iron skillet or broiler pan.
  • Step 5 – Broil the steak for 4-5 minutes on the first side to create a golden-brown crust.
  • Step 6 – Flip the steak and broil for another 4-5 minutes on the other side, or until it reaches your desired doneness.
  • Step 7 – Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, aiming for 130°F for medium-rare.
  • Step 8 – Remove the steak from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
